| School and such... |
[Sep. 12th, 2009|07:35 pm] |
Had a week and a half of school now and so far so good *knocks on wood*. I'm to the point where I'm taking mostly upper level courses, some of them combined grad/undergrad, so there is A LOT of reading, but hopefully I'll slip back into the groove of things.
Most everything I'm taking is in the same general area with the exception of Mondays when I have 10 minutes to cover the .64 miles (thank you GoogleEarth) between Point A and Point B.

I've done a test run, and can make it in 8 minutes through fairly heavy foot traffic and a crosswalk. But when winter comes I may need to duck out of class a few minutes early. Or invest in a jetpack.
I'm there from 9 to 3 most days and have been eating at the Union, something which I'm going to have to stop as I am going broke because of it. Damn you iced chai and your devious deliciousness!!! Damn you to whatever hell $4 coffee shop drinks get damned to!!! |

| Back to School |
[Sep. 1st, 2009|09:39 pm] |
I'm headed back to school tomorrow after taking last year off. I'm going to totally suck at having a schedule. It would probably help if I went to bed before 4 tonight.
What was going to be a re-tiling of the bathroom has turned into a total remodel after extensive dry rot and a good deal of shoddy construction was discovered. It's a good thing we found it when we did because the wooden floor under the tile was so crapily constructed that they didn't even nail the boards down. We have apparently been in danger of falling through the floor while on the toilet for quite some time. The room is now stripped to the studs, and we can see our basement through the giant holes in the floor. According to the dates on the newspapers that were used to back the old tile, the last time this bathroom saw any major maintenance was October of 1946. The more you know... the less likely you are to fall through the floor.
Because of this we do not currently have a shower in our house. A co-worker of my dad is on her honeymoon, so we've been using hers, but she comes back tomorrow so I'm going to have to start bumming showers off of people. You don't appreciate the little things until you have to drive across town to wash your hair. I will never take another shower for granted. |

| Realization about a classic movie... |
[Apr. 14th, 2009|11:50 pm] |
I was flipping through the channels tonight, and came across Gone with the Wind. Having not seen it since watching it for the pretty dresses when I was 12 or so, and having nothing better to do with four hours, I watched. Anyways, I feel I need to say this out loud.
Scarlett is a BITCH.
Gah! I don't think I've ever seen a romantic heroine who I so thoroughly dislike. The woman has no redeeming qualities. Unless you consider bitchiness and the ability to induce an innate rage in normally agreeable people redeeming qualities. I'm in no way in favor of violence against women, but if Rhett had gotten out that horsewhip like he threatened, there is no part of me that would not have cheered. Someone needs to smack a bitch. |

And in the most highly contested race of the evening, CNN manages to come from behind and claim the title of "Dumbest Use of Space-Age Technology EVER."

Seriously. The hell? I have to assume I wasn't the only one having confusing Star Wars flashbacks. |

| This Sam is bound for Europe... |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|05:42 am] |
Well, 3 hours from now, I'm Europe bound. 2 weeks in Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany. I'm actually being surprisingly calm and nonchalant about it considering that going to Europe has been my dream since I was 8. I think I'm being realistic about the whole thing. It's a tour, so I know I'm not going to have a ton of free time to do what I want. I'm viewing it as a starter trip. Getting my bearings overseas, getting comfortable with traveling internationally, etc. Damn it. I'm sounding like an adult again. PURPLE MONKEY DISHWASHER STINKYPANTS!!! OK. That's better.
Lauren (my new travel BFF) and I are going to try to get some ghost hunting done in Prague. She's bringing her new K2 meter, which we tested last week with some interesting results, so that will be fun. It's noon in Krakow. I am going to be SO jet lagged it's not even funny. We're losing tonight on the flight. And I was hopeless in California with a two hour difference. That, however, was pre-college. I'm hoping now I can use the magical ability to pull all-nighters to help with the time difference.
I'm going to try to update a few times from Europe, a travel blog of such, but it all depends on which of the hotels have internet access. Well until then...

| a (gasp!) non-fandom-related post |
[Jul. 3rd, 2008|09:38 pm] |
I tripped and slid down the hill in front of my house the other day while trying to take a picture of a snapping turtle that had wandered into our yard. Fortunately, I walked away from the incidence relatively unharmed, save for a skinned elbow, and with none of my appendages in the jaws of a vicious reptile. Unfortunately, I landed on my camera. I don't think it's technically 'broken', as it still turns on and is structurally intact, but it definitely isn't working. And yes that does make sense, so shut up. I'll have to find some time to take it to the shop from whence it came and see if they can figure out what's up. I really hope they can fix it there, because if I have to send it somewhere to be repaired I think I'll feel naked. My camera is like my security blanket. Even if I'm not taking pictures, I need to know that I COULD. Stupid turtle.
Just look at its beady little eyes plotting away.
Doug took me out to test the new 50 round drum he got for his tommy gun. I was sorely tempted to dress up and wear my Bonnie and Clyde beret, but as it was 90 degrees I thought black wool might not be the best choice. I handled several Thompsons while doing inventory at the museum and watched Johnny Depp fire one repeatedly for four hours in March, so it was very cool to finally shoot one. It also helped to explain some historical questions I had had while doing my depression era crime research.
( BEWARE: History Geekage Within )
He also brought his 'Jurassic Parkized' shotgun and his new police revolver, which took a good chunk out of my thumb upon recoil.
This is the most Bonnie and Clyde I got.
I saw WALL-E today and it was ADORABLE. I'm fairly convinced that WALL-E is me in robot form. |

| Saturday. Now. Please? |
[Jul. 1st, 2008|02:05 am] |
OMFG IS IT SATURDAY YET?!?!?!?
I swear I'm not going to make it. Is there some sort of over the counter chemically induced coma available, because I think that might help. I seriously don't think I'm going to be able to accomplish anything this week, I'm too frickin distracted! When did fandom eat my soul so entirely? I swear it's never been this bad before! I'm joining communities, watching vids, yoinking every icon in sight even though I only have six slots, and reading much more fanfic than can possibly be healthy. And the worst part is that truthfully I don't even want it to be Saturday, because that means it's over, and I am so frickin scared for my OTP that I would rather just wallow in blissful ignorance and hope for as long as humanly possible.
DAMN YOU RTD!!!! I WAS USING THAT SOUL!!! |

| busy week |
[Jun. 23rd, 2008|10:31 am] |
Sour Skittles contain 40% of you daily value of Vitamin C and therefore count as breakfast.
What middled as a thoroughly craptastic week that culminated with me quitting my job (long story) has turned out not to be so bad. Saturday's Doctor Who episode cheered me up considerably, as well as making me squee like a seven year old at a Hannah Montana concert. Daleks laughing is officially the scariest sound in the universe. Then yesterday we had the church outdoor service and picnic which was surprisingly nice, most likely because it's the first time I've sat in the grass all summer with the flooding. Later Kristi and Kim came over and we watched some 30 Rock and Doctor Who, went to Wayne's and got ice cream which we ate at the covered bridge. All in all, the week ended much better than it began. |

| random ebay purchases |
[May. 30th, 2008|11:45 am] |
I am not a purse person. I have had the same bag for five years, and that was a gift. But when I saw this on ebay my inner vintage fashion nerd could not resist. Especially not for 9 dollars.
I mean blue snake skin! How kickass is that?
On a completely different note, my anger at Eurovision has subsided considerably ever since the BBC released a mid-season Doctor Who trailer. That and me discovering Life on Mars. A sentence I just now realized could be interpreted entirely differently than it is meant to be. John Simm is my new TV boyfriend. |

[May. 14th, 2008|08:02 pm] |
Headed out to Beaver Dam and Columbus yesterday for PE filming. Met some awesome people, especially Maegan and Jon who we hung out with for close to twelve hours.
Being that it was most likely the last day of small town filming in Wisconsin, I decided it was time to do a meet and greet. It took until four in the morning, but the payoff was a hand shake and a hug from one Mr. Johnny Depp. The people we met made it seem like a much shorter time, and by the end of the night, conversation consisted almost solely of inside jokes with people I hadn't known 12 hours before. This whole experience has been amazing. I've met so many people through the movie and the blog, some of whom I hope will be life long friends.
It has also changed me into a hardcore JD fan. I have never seen an actor who so thoroughly loves their job and appreciates their fans. Watching him throughout this whole process, he has truly shown how amazing he is, both as an actor and a person.
On a much, much shallower note... He smells good, has soft skin, and I think his jacket is made of butter.
And now ( pictures! ) |

[Apr. 26th, 2008|10:49 am] |
Long week. I went to Chicago with mi padre yesterday for our annual binge-spending coin show extravaganza. I bought some nifty stuff, I'll post pictures later if I remember.
If the weather holds today, Doug is taking me out to shoot his tommy gun, which = awesome.
PE shooting schedule is all messed up ever since they started a fire at Little Bohemia, but I'll hopefully be up in Columbus on the 29th, and in Milwaukee that weekend.
I would just like to state that these chips are the best thing in the history of ever. |

[Apr. 16th, 2008|09:45 am] |
I'm headed up to Oshkosh in an hour for some more Public Enemies. I'll hopefully get to meet Rod, who runs publicenemiescolumbus.blogspot.con, who I've been doing some research for. He got an extra role, and is riding in around in a '33 Graham being shot at by Johnny Depp all day. Lucky bastard.
You can see more of my pics at my flickr. http://www.flickr.com/photos/17441878@N08/
ETA: I met Colleen Atwood. This is the best day of my life. Yes, I am that much of a geek. She was super nice, especially considering I was probably babbling like and idiot. Oh, and those are Johnny Depp's clothes she's holding.
